Board of Directors | Duties

The Board decides on the Bank’s monetary and financial policy implementation. It exchange markets; sets general policies related to economic regulations and to financial system growth; establishes the denominations and characteristics of bills and coins; authorizes the opening of new financial or foreign exchange institutions and revokes their authorization to operate, and establishes the rules for the Bank’s organization and management.

It also performs all other duties assigned to him by BCRA Charter Sections 14 and 15.

Silvina Rivarola | Member of the Board (Appointment subject to Senate Confirmation)

Silvina Rivarola is an Expert in Evaluation of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Systems for the Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (Grupo de Acción Financiera de Latinoamérica, GAFILAT). She graduated from Universidad de Buenos Aires as a lawyer specialized in Criminal Law and international regulations on money laundering, and terrorist financing. She holds a master´s degree in International Relations from Universidad de Belgrano. She also attended the master’s program in Law and Judicial Magistracy at Universidad Austral.

Prior to taking up her current position at the BCRA, she served as Director of the Egmont Centre of FIU Excellence and Leadership (ECOFEL) of the Egmont Group, Canada. Moreover, she was Director of International Affairs at the Financial Information Unit (Unidad de Información Financiera, UIF) and representative of Argentina before the Financial Action Task Force (Grupo de Acción Financiera Internacional, GAFI), GAFILAT and the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units.

She also served as Prosecutor with judicial jurisdiction on crimes, contraventions, and misdemeanor at the Judiciary of the City of Buenos Aires; Judge at the Oral Criminal Court; and Legal Secretary at the National Supreme Court of Justice, and at the Federal Court of Appeals on criminal matters.
