As regards the 2016 fiscal year, it is worth mentioning that the Board of Directors decided, at the time of distributing 2015 profits, to increase the BCRA capital and the reserves in $25 billion and $12.5 billion, respectively. This increase caused the total balances for both items to reach $67.071 billion by the end of the year, thus, more than doubling the balance for December 2015 of $29.572 billion. This capitalization represents the most significant capital increase of the BCRA in many years.
Moreover, the results of the 2016 fiscal year reached $67.449 billion.
Also, the growth of international reserves should be highlighted, which increased 53.7% vis-à-vis against the previous period, going from USD25.563 billion to USD39.308 billion. This increase is mainly explained by foreign currency purchases in the foreign exchange market and from the National Treasury.
The BCRA 2016 Balance Sheet has been reviewed by the BCRA Comptrollership and External Audit, in accordance with the currency regulation.
